Franklin residents have had enough of 18-wheelers barreling down our small-town streets. Whether it’s school buses stuck behind freight trucks, parents nervous about their children crossing the street, or daily backups on roads never meant to handle this kind of traffic—it's clear: Franklin Township needs real solutions.
While warehouse development is part of the problem, the real issue is a lack of smart planning, route enforcement, and accountability. Lezny, Brant, Georges, and Guy are listening to your concerns—and we have a plan.
Policy & Infrastructure Solutions
1. Designated Truck Routes. We will advocate for creating and strictly enforcing truck-only routes that steer 18-wheelers away from our small residential roads. Major roadways like Route 287 and Route 27 should carry the freight burden—not Amwell, DeMott, or South Middlebush.
2. Weight Limits and Clear Signage. We support placing legal weight limits on local streets and ensuring signage is visible, clear, and enforced. Trucks that violate these restrictions should be ticketed—period.
3. GPS Routing Updates. We will push Franklin Township to work with major GPS and freight navigation companies to update and lock-in official truck routes. Many trucks are following GPS apps not updated with local restrictions - let’s fix that.
4. Warehouse Site Accountability. Future warehouse developments must be located near highway access points—not in areas that dump freight traffic onto neighborhood roads. We will demand traffic accountability before approval.
Holding the Planning Board Accountable
5. End Rubber-Stamp Approvals. Right now, over 90% of our Planning and Zoning Board members are Democrats, appointed by the all-Democrat Town Council. They have rubber-stamped warehouse after warehouse, with little regard for traffic impact. We will challenge that culture by providing thoughtful oversight and checks and balances.
6. Independent Traffic Impact Studies. We will push for independent, third-party traffic studies for all new developments—especially warehouses. These studies must consider cumulative traffic, not just single-project projections.
7. Infrastructure for Freight. We will lobby at the county and state level for targeted infrastructure funding to create or expand truck-accessible roads that bypass our neighborhoods.
Safety & Enforcement
8. Police Enforcement Campaigns. We will work closely with the FTPD to ticket and deter trucks violating posted routes and weight limits. Enforcement is essential—and we’ll make it a priority.
9. Community Reporting Tools. We support establishing a user-friendly hotline or mobile app that allows residents to report illegal truck traffic, idling, or unsafe conditions. Real-time data means real action.
We’re Not Just Complaining—We’re Offering Solutions
Our small-town streets weren’t built for 18-wheelers. It’s time we put families, not freight, warehouses, or developers first. The current council may deflect blame onto the Planning Board, but they appoint those members, and they’ve enabled the problem.
LEZNY, BRANT, GEORGES, & GUY believe Franklin deserves better. With smarter policy, stronger enforcement, and real leadership, we can restore peace and safety to our local roads.
Let’s take our streets back—together.
Vote LEZNY, BRANT, GEORGES, and GUY in 2025. It’s time to put Franklin residents first.
