Franklin Residents See Steep Tax Hikes: Here's What Our Candidates Will Do About It

ree

Franklin residents opened their mailboxes recently to find their new property tax bills — and for many, the news was a shock. Some households saw increases of nearly 25% in just one year, leaving families concerned about how they will afford to stay in their homes.

“This is unsustainable,” said one concerned Franklin neighbor. “When residents see their tax bills jump this dramatically, they know something has to change.”

Our candidates — Christopher Lezny (Ward 1), Jan Brant (Ward 2), Sophia Georges (Ward 3), and Benjamin Guy (Ward 4) — are experienced in taxes, budgets, housing, real estate, and development policy. They have concrete solutions to help bring fiscal sanity back to Franklin Township:

The Solutions Our Candidates Support:

1. Conduct a Line-by-Line Budget Review. We will push for a public, line-by-line audit of the municipal budget. Franklin taxpayers deserve to know where every dollar goes—and where cuts can be made without hurting essential services.

2. Freeze or Cap Discretionary Spending. Until fiscal accountability is restored, we will advocate for a freeze on non-essential spending and propose a local cap on future discretionary increases.

3. Demand Developer Accountability. Developers should not get a free ride. We will push for higher impact fees and insist that new developments pay their fair share for roads, drainage, emergency services, and schools.

4. End Political Patronage Contracts. They exist. We've seen them. We will challenge and scrutinize no-bid and politically connected contracts. Franklin’s tax dollars should go to the best deal for the taxpayer—not friends of the Council.

5. Prioritize Tax Relief for Seniors and Working Families. We support expanding local relief programs, such as property tax rebates or deferred payment options for qualifying seniors and lower-income residents.

6. Restore Public Input to the Budget Process. Too many decisions happen behind closed doors. We will push to open the budget process to the public EARLIER and allow meaningful feedback before votes are cast.

Our candidates have the knowledge and the backbone to stand up for taxpayers. This November, voters can choose leaders who will work for fiscal responsibility and fairness.

Franklin Township can no longer afford business as usual. It’s time for a change — and these candidates are ready to deliver it.
